Camp Wilderness

Outdoor Education for Youth

Our Camp

Each year we hold our Camp in the month of July, the target date is the second weekend.

The camp is located in the private section at School Section Lake Campground in Mecosta County in central Lower Michigan. The beautiful outdoor setting is conducive to both learning and fun. Camp Wilderness is a three day summer camp type weekend that uses the International Bowhunter Education Program and the Michigan Hunter Education Program (certificates awarded upon successful completion) as our curriculum. In between educational classes, the kids do regular summer camp activities such as swimming, canoeing, volley ball, campfire etc. Our Camp is designed for boys and girls ages 10 to 14 (by Dec. 31 of the year of Camp). We fill openings on a first come first served basis. We are limited to approx. 45 kids by the amount of cabin space available.

The classes at Camp Wilderness are taught by Michigan DNR  certified instructors in Hunter Education and International Bowhunter Education Program. Every instructor has submitted and passed background checks by the Michigan DNR Law Enforcement Division. Our staff consists of the Camp Director, 10-14 instructors, 8 group leaders, and 4-5 cook staff. This ratio of 1 adult to every 2 or 3 kids insures quality adult supervision during your child's stay at Camp Wilderness.

Cost for the entire weekend is $95 for everything including meals, lodging, supplies and outdoor goodies. The staff has a tremendous amount of experience and is completely volunteer.
